Coton de Tulear puppies
Ancestors of these dogs were brought in Reunion by French soldiers for rodent control. So there Coton de Reunion, and this disappeared breed after crossing with the Maltese served as the basis for the removal of rocks on Madagascar, named for one of the Madagascan province Coton de Tulear. It was used as a norn, a guard and as a Pied Piper.

For the several centuries in Madagascar lives these small white dog with a soft and fluffy wool-like cotton. Hence the name of the breed (English cotton – cotton). They occur mainly in an area called Tulear. It is still unknown, whether their ancestors came to Madagascar in the XVI century with pirates, the ships they served as the Pied Piper, or with the European colonizers. There is a legend that tells of the tricks of these dogs: once at home, they found themselves on the bank of the river which they had to cross, barking dogs caught crocodiles, and then ran off along the coast a few hundred meters and silently crossed to the other shore. Coton de Tulear is an ideal family dog, funny, playful and temperamental, but also attentive and alert. As a rule, easy to education, but sometimes it’s stubborn. Everywhere wants to be near owner and does not like to be alone. Characteristic of the Coton de Tulear is its manner of jumping, when the high jump, he pushes all four legs simultaneously.
The mobility of the dog allows it to participate in dog competitions (in a mini-class).It loves frolicking in nature and are best feeling in the house with a large plot. The long coat protects the Coton de Tulear from the weather, but since there is no undercoat, in wet weather to avoid hypothermia dog should be immediately dried. That the wool is not dumped, that the length to 8 cm is possible, it should be regularly combing the brush and comb. In 1977, Coton de Tulear was imported into France and spread from there to other European countries. In Germany, this breed of dog room is still pretty rare.
Coton de Tulear (Madagascar Bichon) is a relative of the French and Italian Bichon Bolognese. In Madagascar, it brought the sailors. The name means “cotton of Tulear, which is related to the quality of wool, similar to cotton wool. Madagascar Bichon was virtually unknown until the last twenty years, it is started to import to Europe and America.
For centuries, this dog was a favorite companion of rich immigrants from Tulear in southern Madagascar. On of the French island of Reunion off the east coast of Madagascar, met a similar dog, which now disappeared. Coton de Tulear is very similar to the Bichon. Its distinguishing feature is a kind of wool that does not fade. But unlike Bichon some Madagascan representatives meet golden or black spots. It’s cute, friendly dog, which has recently enjoyed great popularity in the U.S.A.
SIZE
An adult dog is 25 – 31 cm, weight: 5,5 – 7 kg.
COLOUR
Pure-white color is preferable to the head and body can be spot color of champagne, and black, which distinguishes this dog from other Bichon.
CHARACTER
It is a faithful and loyal companion. Strong, hardy, very active dog, loves to swim. Has a strong character. The owner is committed completely. It likes to bark, often showing aggression toward other dogs. It requires persistence education from an early age. It loves children. Not tolerate loneliness.
CARE
Well suited for an urban apartment, does not suffer alone. It needed a long walks.
The head is short, when viewed from above – a triangular shape. The skull is convex. Nasal bridge is straight. The lips are thin. Nose black or flesh colored. Eyes are round, well delivered, dark. Ears are long and thin, highly placed, hanging. It is covered with white or colored hair (hair interspersed with yellow or black). Housing squat, elongated. Muscular neck is without dewlap. Chest is broad. The back is slightly arched, muscular and straight. Loins slightly arched, well muscled. The croup is broad and rounded.
Limbs are short, strong and muscular. Feet are round; fingers are collected into a ball. The length of tail about 18 cm thick at the base, thinning to an end. Low set.
